Back to: Day 13 Lifestyle Not a Diet
Think about a few things that the healthier version of you does on a regular basis. What do you think? How do you feel?
And now, what’s the biggest, most impactful thing your future self does?
You’re going to use these ideas to create: You 2.0!
As you know, it can be easier to PICTURE ourselves doing that major, healthy thing every day, than it is to put it into practice. So, let’s bring in a little drama…
Picture a life or death situation. In this situation, how would you make sure that big, healthy change could happen?
What steps would it take to make this important change a reality?
We played this game for two major reasons:
- Making the situation “life or death” can help you brainstorm your next steps, because it makes that change a priority.
- We often picture ourselves as “finished products”, but in reality, we are always changing, and we can decide which changes to make in our lives.
We feel more strongly about enjoying our indulgences now because it’s hard to imagine a life where those indulgences don’t feel important.
We find it a lot easier to remember the person we were 10 years ago, then to try to imagine the person we’ll be 10 years from now. Because of this, we have trouble picturing ourselves living a life that’s a lot different than the one we’re living today.
Turn the wheels of that imagination. The more we work to picture ourselves as that healthy future self, the easier it will be to believe we’ll become that person. This also helps us figure out what we need to focus on, and to make those changes a reality.
Keep it up, and before long you’ll be dropping those bad habits just like those ripped jeans, popped collar and fanny pack.
